Before the UPS reaches its limit it sends a signal to the PC through RS-232 serial port and the software detects the signal and executes for saving all the programs opened by user and give the PC auto-shutdown. An application programming interface (API) function is used in the Visual Basic program. The software developed in this project is capable of saving all the programs opened by the users and shutdown the PC safely when the power goes out.
