Increase in the Use of Electric Vehicles and Its Potential Effects on Electricity Distribution Network and Situation Analysis for Turkey
Considering the decrease in conventional resources and increase in environmental pollution, awareness and related concerns, it is anticipated that the use of electric vehicles (EV) will rise globally in the medium term as a solution in the context of decision making process of many countries, to achieve their environmental targets. This paper presents a case study about the recent researches and projections on electric vehicles and also potential impacts of EV charging on the electricity distribution network. In this regard, recent developments about EV and Turkey oriented findings have been indicated. The current EV market situation, advances about range, battery and charging issues, the current situation in Turkey were researched. Results from the presented studies indicate that EV sales penetration rates calculations were made under 2 different charge scenario distributions. The analysis results of them that especially in 17:00-23:00 hours when electricity usage reached peak level, EV charging creates a serious fluctuation and load profile in terms of electricity distribution network. In addition to these, the relationship between the energy quality and the EV charging stations were analyzed and their effects on the electricity network were investigated. One of the result was obtained from these studies that load value of 400 kVA transformer reached from 63% to 97% when three charging stations were connected all together. In this paper, it was aimed to provide possible solutions to all above mentioned issues and also some suggestions.
