Demonstration of a general European road data information exchange network - GERDIEN
The GERDIEN project is described. GERDIEN is aimed at the telematic infrastructure for dynamic traffic management, in particular for interurban areas. The main objective is to develop a coherent framework for road traffic data collection and exchange. This framework must have an open architecture in which modular applications at all levels can be integrated. A part of this framework is implemented in a real world environment in the vicinity of Rotterdam in the Netherlands. In this pilot several applications will be implemented, i.e., network state monitoring and prediction, weigh-in-motion and weather monitoring and prediction. The project will result in recommendations for a set of telecommunication standards and for a number of applications in an integrated environment.
