Several new materials and techniques have been applied to improve sensor characteristics and to increase sensor system performances. Our presented sensors include metamaterial-based sensors and waveguide sensors for both liquid and solid material characterizations, radio frequency sensor systems for plant and soil moisture content measurements, and ground penetrating radar (GPR) for classifying buried objects. The sensor structures and system designs for some of these sensors will be given in details.
