Moldova in the Grip of Systemic Crisis

The systemic crisis that engulfed Moldova in 2022 was largely provoked by the incompetence of its top leadership. Abandoning the traditional friendly ties with Russia, the pro-European oriented leaders of present-day Moldova set a course for the country’s accession to the EU, joining the anti-Russian sanctions of Western countries. As a result, due to the serious deterioration of the economic situation, social protests are growing in the republic and the activity of the political opposition is intensifying. In addition, the escalation of tension around Transnistria continues.
