The Functions of E-Textbooks for Utilizing in K-12 Classes: A Case Study in Beijing
The emerging eTextbooks have attracted a lot of research, but the functions of eTextbooks are still not clear for utilizing them in classroom. In this study, based on the findings from a three-round Delphi study, we explored the functions of eTextbooks in K-12 classes through a mixed-method design research of interview, questionnaire and lecture video coding in two primary schools. The results showed: (1) The eTextbooks should have the similar structure and layouts as paperback books to follow the students' reading habits. (2) The interaction with students is more important than media rich contents. (3) Note-taking and working on assignments are key functions of eTextbooks to follow students' study habits and to meet the requirement of instruction. (4) The relevant management tools are the key issues to keep eTextbooks in routine classes smoothly and sustainable.
