The method of research is to study the effect of increase rate of the overload on the working body of the machine and its distribution along the kinematic chain of the drive on the level of protection of the safety clutch. It is established that the safety clutch is not able to protect against overload components and parts of the drive, located between the working body and the clutch, if the propagation time of the shock wave is greater than the period of time during which there is an increase in overload on the working body from zero to the maximum value.
