Visualization of extra curriculum education for promoting active learning

For more than 15 years we have been practicing smart education using ICT-driven equipment and other educational tools with the aim of cultivating students' voluntary learning based on their own ideas. The past implementations were highly evaluated as innovative approaches in higher education and led us to several awards from academic societies for education. Considered as an advanced challenge worth ensuring accelerative promotion by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan (MEXT), we are currently continuing the related research and education supported by a large budget distributed by competitive fund. In this paper, we described our efforts to visualize students' learning activities performed outside the formal curriculum. The visualizing system was established in our project for promoting active learning.
