Status Update on the Treatment of Cannabis Use Disorder

This chapter provides an overview of the research-based clinical literature on the efficacy and effectiveness of interventions for those with a cannabis use disorder. The discussion focuses on recently published review articles of controlled studies on psychosocial and pharmacological interventions for adult and adolescent populations, as a number of comprehensive reviews have recently been published. In addition, we discuss select findings on two promising approaches—technological-delivered interventions and brief interventions. Concluding comments remind the reader that cannabis use disorders, like all other substance use disorders, are not easily treated and that alternative and more potent interventions are needed to continue to build more effective strategies to address this growing public health issue.
