In this scenario, the article aims to comparatively analyze how the policy of reserving of vacancies at the two federal universities in Santa Catarina is structured. It is a descriptive, qualitative research, carried out through documentary analysis of the legislation, public tender documents and the lists of candidates nominated in each event. The results obtained demonstrated the difference in the percentage allocated to the reserve, which at UFSC applies the legal maximum allowed of 20% and, at UFFS, the minimum of 5%. The first applies the percentage considering the total number of vacancies available in the notice and the second, calculation according to the number of vacancies available in each position/specialty/locality. It was found that UFFS is in disagreement with the legislation, causing a decrease in the offer of reserved places and, consequently, the appointment of candidates with disabilities.
