Combining SCOR and BPMN to support supply chain decision-making of the pharmaceutical wholesaler-distributors
Pharmaceuticals wholesaler-distributors are a vital actor in the pharmaceutical supply chain. Their mission is not just about delivery, but also and mostly ensuring the access to the right medicine to all patients throughout the Moroccan territory on the right time, safely and efficiently. They deliver up to 5 shipments on a daily basis. However, the changing social, economic and regulatory context in addition to the specificity of medicines and complexity of pharmaceutical supply chain begets weaknesses and threats which could put their mission at stake and causes a sharp deterioration in their profit margins. Following these difficulties, the wholesaler-distributors are called upon to maintain their supply chain and control all internal and external activities. Having a holistic and detailed map of the supply chain processes, which joins the strategic level to the operational one, and identifies all the collaborations links between internal and external actors is of a paramount importance. In view of this, we will demonstrate in this paper the advantages of a hybrid model based on the SCOR and BPMN to map the wholesaler-distributors supply chain processes. The SCOR model is used as a reference model while BPMN as a modelling tool. The models developed will be a relevant decision-making support, an excellent mean of communication and a starting point for further analysis.
