Summary This paper describes six data collection efforts since 1944 which relate to the adoption process for handicapped children. The information these efforts have generated, the policy considerations which influenced the types of data collected and the influence the data have had on public policy are described, The future for improvement of information about the adoption of handicapped children is also discussed.
