Identifying LinkedIn Usage Pattems Based on Feedback from Students and Fresh Graduates
Professional networks are rapidly evolving, bringing a wealth of new functionalities, pushing for stronger ties and easing knowledge exchange. By considering their direct feedback, this research effort aims to uncover insights on the usage patterns and habits of professional network users. As such platforms have certain characteristics that differentiate them from generic social networks, their analysis requires tailored research approaches. Our study targeting LinkedIn was carried out using a survey consisting of 20 questions which was sent to 108 individuals that are either enrolled or have graduated from a technical programme of the University of Craiova and are now in different stages of their professional careers. The analysis of the responses has revealed interesting correlations and influences among certain actions, enabling both users and interested researchers to better understand LinkedIn. Results show that there are strong incentives for soon-to-be graduates, just getting ready to enter thejob market, to set up and maintain a professional online presence.
