The World of True Incarnations of the Word: On the Creation of Russian Lyrics for F. Schubert’s Songs
The aim of the study is to show the significance of the unique work on the creation of Russian vocal lyrics for F. Schubert’s songs by an outstanding pianist of the XX century Mariya Veniaminovna Yudina for the history and theory of art. Particular attention is paid to the requirements imposed by M. V. Yudina on poets when creating a literary translation of a vocal text. The study is novel in that it is the first to consider the issue of equirithmic translation in the context of M. V. Yudina’s integral creative heritage, her views on the nature of art in general and on the specifics of incarnations of the word in a vocal work. As a result, the study has shown that the Russian text congenial to the original was necessary for Yudina not only to penetrate into the essence and meaning of a vocal composition, but it also opened a way beyond the “purely aesthetic boundaries of art”, “into the world of true incarnations of the Word”.
