Time domain models for fixed-speed induction generators
This paper presents a comparison of time-domain dynamic models used for a fixed-speed induction generator. Two types of the models are developed on the basis of 5th order equations and 3rd order equations. The models are constructed and implemented using MATLAB/Simulink. Case studies are performed with particular consideration on three-phase fault responses and connecting of capacitors at the stator of the induction generator. It is found that the results obtained from 5th order model give more satisfactory transient responses, and should be used as a representation for the induction generator in power system transient studies.
