A comprehensive faculty development program: Three tier comrehensive training approach for holistic development of faculty members of engineering colleges to meet the challenges of future engineering education
Faculty members are the key human resource for an engineering institution. The quality of the faculty members decides the success of engineering education to a large extent and hence their development is very vital for the sustained growth of an institution. An all-round or holistic development of faculty members to cater to the needs of future is imperative as the challenges faced and responsibilities to be shouldered by them in today's engineering education environment is very wide and diverse in nature. It is necessary that faculty members given training with suitable focus and emphasis to attain academic effectiveness, accelerate growth and to achieve synergy at the institutional level. Keeping in mind the above facts, a three tier approach for the development of faculty members of engineering colleges to equip them with the necessary knowledge and skill sets is proposed. The model will be administered over a period of time at various levels giving due emphasis for professionalism. The approach involves multiple modules, continuous learning, practicing, sharing of experiences, reflecting on practices and assessment at all stages.
