A comparison between CDIO and EAC engineering education learning outcomes
Current engineer faces a significant challenge to fulfill a nation need's in line with the pace of technological advancement and socio-technological changes. To effectively contribute once they enter the industry and to meet employers' expectation, engineering graduates must be competent in theoretical knowledge, research-oriented engineering an application-oriented engineering. This paper presents an overview and comparative study of Engineering Education Learning Outcomes stated by CDIO (Conceive-Design-Implement-Operate) Initiative and EAC (Engineering Accreditation Council) to prepare the engineering graduates for the industry. The paper concludes that CDIO Syllabus encompass more comprehensive view on the learning outcomes by considering the synthesis between engineering science and practices. The authors suggest that EAC should have a concise definition of an engineer in a context of Malaysia as a rapidly developing country. Continuous improvement on engineering education has to be done continuously to ensure the current engineering graduate capable of sustaining and competing in today industry environments.
