Patency was found in 89% of transplants with, and 86% of transplants without, the arteriovenous shunt. Aafter these experiments the Gore Tex prosthesis was implanted successfully in patients suffering from postthrombotic syndrome to serve as a substitute for the superior vena cava and iliac vein.
