In this article, a compact design and experimental study of microstrip-line fed annular-ring shaped antenna is presented. The antenna consists of two annular-rings that are diagonally attached to each other with a semi-circular ring and a modified L-shaped ground plane. The proposed antenna provides a ultra wide bandwidth from 3.0 to 15 GHz with 10-dB return loss, which evidently covers entire UWB band (3.1-10.6 GHz). In addition, the antenna has a significantly compact size of 25×25×1.6 mm3. The measured and simulated results confirm the usefulness of the antenna for ultra wideband applications.
