Acceso y uso de las TIC en la escuela secundaria en diferentes contextos socioeconómicos
The educational sector has assumed long time ago the challenge of incorporating technologies into teaching and learning processes. And secondary school plays an essential role in the development of the necessary capacities for intelligent and critical understanding and usage of the new languages produced in the field of information technologies. The objective of this work is to analyze the access to ICT at students’ home and at school, using the microdata of the 2016 Learning Census for seniors in high school and to show the inequalities observed by province, type of school management and socioeconomic level of the student. Among the main conclusions found, the following can be mentioned: at the national level, approximately 40% of the students say they have a computer at home; there are great disparities among them, since less than 14% of those with lower socioeconomic status say they have, while more than 72% of students with highest income say so. However more than 70% of all students –both low and high socioeconomic level– say they use computer at school at least a few times a year. The results show that there are no differences by socioeconomic level of the students in the activities proposed by teachers to do with computers during class time.
