Support of computer science students by practitioners from industry
This paper suggests some answers to the question what actions Higher Education (HE) should take in order to increase the students' competences sought by the current requirements of industry. This paper presents both additional activities which can be offered to the Computer Science students at Lublin University of Technology and the results of the survey with students' self-evaluation. They are necessary due to the rapid pace of change in information and communication technology (ICT). New workers entering the labour market must demonstrate a wide knowledge in the Computer Science area. The number of competences required by employers is constantly increasing according to market needs. The newest and the most desirable competences, which are defined by the specialists from industry, are presented. Next, the cooperation between the university and companies are described. The students assessed additional activities organised in cooperation with industry. The topics of lectures led by specialists from the ICT industry are presented. The classes are aimed at preparing the students to the needs of the labour market. The next point presented in the paper is evaluation of the support provided for students by their future employers.
