The total dose absorbed by every patient during a medical investigation is generally provided by modern medical equipment and it is usually recorded but it is not cumulated or even expressed using the same units. A pilot Romanian project tries to accomplish one of these tasks. In order to estimate the effective dose, the International System of Units uses the Sievert (Sv) as a derived unit, but the new system implements it as a central unit. The system uses computers, special design software, smart cards and its security is based on Public Key Infrastructure.
