There are several methods that aim to perform biomonitoring for the presence of EIs previously mentioned, such as tests involving yeast or genetically modified fish. The disadvantages of these methods lie in the delay of responses when using fish, and because it is not possible to extrapolate the results found to the environment once genetically modified organisms are used.
