The article gives a brief description of the notions “motive” and “motivation”, examines the directions of research of these notions, reveals the specifics of the content of professional motivation of teachers, analyzes its types and motivating factors. The article describes the results of the research carried out using the techniques: “The study of motivational profile of personality” (Sh. Richie and P. Martin), and “The study of the motives of the teaching profession” (T. N. Silchenkova).
