An Online-Tool for career planning of women in STEM: From research to application
Despite many initiatives and campaigns, there is still a lack of women in management position – especially in the STEM sector. This is why we developed an online counselling tool that supports female students and graduates of STEM programs in their entry into professional life. The online tool bases on the results of scientific studies, such as interviews with female experts, online survey, and CV analysis, determining success factors of women's careers in STEM sectors. The findings are digitally bundled, vividly presented, and are demonstrated in a format that matches the input from previous career stages. Thus, the online tool automatically offers suitable tips for career planning and motivation for career continuation. This article presents the development process of the online tool from research to practical implementation. The challenges of an online tool for career planning as well as its potential for career counselling of female students and graduates are critically examined.
