An IoT Enabled Smart Wheelchair Solution for Physically Challenged People
According to the World Health Organization, just 5 to 15% of the seventy million disabled individuals worldwide have access to wheelchairs. In today's world, the conventional wheelchair requires human effort and lacks various safety features, whereas with smart wheelchairs patients get the assistance they need to complete everyday chores without the aid of others. To overcome these limitations smart wheelchairs come into play. These are power wheelchair that has several sensors, andassistive technologies, and provides disabled people with free and secure mobility in most environments like in home, parks, and normal walking lanes. These wheelchairs are gradually becoming more popular and replacing regular wheelchairs. Nonetheless, they are expensive which prohibits a substantial number of disabled people from receiving services. An affordable smart wheelchair that employs cutting-edge parts and technology to offer plenty of features while reducing expenses is our goal. An outline of an affordable Smart Wheelchair is proposed here which is based on an 8051 micro-controller and the Internet of Things (IoT) technology that incorporates GPS and WiFi modules for sending alert messages during emergencies.
