Methods : The study having a defining characteristic was held between the dates of January 2017 and June 2017 at an obesity clinic of the department of en docrinology and metabolic diseases of a training hospital. Within the scope of the sample 257 people that applied to the hospital between these dates, and accorded with the boundedness of the study were taken. The data of the study were gathered through face-to-face interview method by using personal information form and self-care agency scale.The data were analyzed using percentages, numbers, Student’s t-test, Mann Whitney U test and Kruskall Wal lis test analysis. Results : Findings: Of the individuals in cluded in the study 81.7% were female, 30.7% of them are in the 51-60 age group. It was found that 78.2% of individuals had chronic disease and 56.4% of them were first degree obese. The overall average of self-care power of the individuals was determined as 100.13± 18.44. No significant difference was found when the overall average of self-care power was compared according to BMI. In the study, it was determined that gender, age group, marital status, income status, regular physician control, physical activity and education have a significant effect on self-care. Conclusion : As a result of this study, it was found that the average self-care agency score of the obese indi viduals included in the study was moderate.
