Pediatric pathology is not a narrow field of pathology.
At a quick glance, pediatric pathology can be evaluated as a narrow field of pathology. Most people believe that pediatric pathology is an unnecessary subspecialty and every ordinary pathologist can easily evaluate the pediatric materials. Indeed, neither pediatric pathology is a limited field of pathology, nor pediatric pathologist is a “holidaymaker” who is examining lesser number of materials. On the contrary; the human development passes through very dynamic dynamic processes from a zygotic phase to late adolescence stages and pediatric pathology is a very complex subspecialty requiring a broad knowledge of normal and pathologic mechanisms that vary through various phases of development. In summary, the pediatric pathologist must have a special knowledge of obstetric, gynecology, embryology, genetics, nephrology, neurology, oncology, dermatology, metabolic disorders, infectious diseases, forensic medicine, and child abuse and so on. Technical and scientific equipments are necessary factors in pediatric pathology, as they are in every other field of pathology. But if the material is evaluated separately from the story and dreams, from the past and future of the child and if a rapport between pediatric pathologist and clinician can not be established, then pathological diagnosis will be doubtful.
