A Non-invasive Diagnosis Tool Based on Hepatorenal Index For Hepatic Steatosis
Hepatic steatosis, also known as fatty liver disease (FLD), a condition caused by the fat cells build-up in the liver, is considered one of the most frequent liver abnormalities. Being diagnosed in the early stages can help avoid some serious illnesses like fibrosis, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma. Up to this day, the most precise method to detect steatosis is by performing a biopsy of hepatic tissue samples. This paper presents a non-invasive method to detect liver steatosis, by calculating a Hepatorenal Index in the B-Mode Ultrasound images. The results obtained applying the Hepatorenal Index method on a dataset with 55 patients using our developed tool are 94.44% for sensitivity, 100% for specificity, and an overall accuracy of 96,36%.
