Power system architecture's for the emerging information highway
This paper provides an analysis of various powering requirements for the emerging information highway and discusses key consideration of plant design. The emerging information highway architecture is undergoing significant changes to find cost effective ways of deploying new services. Fiber in the loop (FITL) has faced significant challenges including powering architectures that were too costly to enable wide spread deployment of FITL systems. With the recent surge of interest in hybrid fiber coax systems and corporate alliances, new architectures have emerged which provide promising alternatives to the conventional DC powering approach. This paper compares various powering methods over coaxial cable. Design considerations of DC powering over coaxial cable is reviewed to encourage dialogue with industry experts and customers. Consideration and recommendations for outside plant power systems are presented.<>
