System development for overseas expansion of scenario-type robot recreation program

From the standpoint of treating dementia and enhancing the quality of life (QOL), recreational activities are critical in elder care facilities. Therefore, the authors created a "scenario-type robot recreation program" and demonstrated its utility in Japanese elder care facilities. In this study, the authors have developed a system for implementing this recreation program in Switzerland, which, like Japan, has a large elderly population and a declining birthrate. The doll-shaped conversation robot utilized in this recreation program was modified to speak German, and a remote support system was developed to assist the robot recreation activities in Switzerland via remote control of the robot from Japan as a countermeasure to the COVID-19.
