The harmonic distortion levels at the point of interconnection between a generating facility and the grid must be within the limits set by the standards. To this end, a harmonic analysis is carried out before the facility is connected to the grid. The harmonic analysis uses a frequency dependent model of the utility that is only an approximation of the actual grid. The use of an approximated grid model results in errors in the calculation of harmonic distortions, some of which are shown in the examples presented in this paper. This study proposes practical methods to compensate for the errors introduced by inaccurate grid models.
