The purpose of the research is to develop risk management mechanisms in higher education institutions as part of information support for innovative projects. The following tasks are solved in the article: to determine the advantages and disadvantages of risk assessment methods in innovative projects in higher education institutions and to offer effective solutions for minimizing the level of uncertainty in the management of innovative projects. The following methods are used: methods of project and program management, methods of designing information systems and technologies, theory of systems and system analysis. The following results were obtained: both analyzed approaches can be used to take into account risk and uncertainty when evaluating the effectiveness of innovative projects, although the method of evaluating the expected effectiveness is more grounded from a theoretical point of view. However, in practical implementation, it is associated with some difficulties, the need to compile and process a large number of project scenarios.
