Abstract
ABSTRACT:This article examines the challenges and prospects for revitalizing the government of South Sudan in order to restore security, facilitate humanitarian outreach, conduct institutional reforms, improve the economy, and keep the people united in a democratic federal state. It connects these issues to lessons from previous peace agreements, before and after the separation of South Sudan from Sudan. Notably, the article examines the 2018 revitalized peace agreement and points to gaps in its implementation. It argues that relapse in any of the four pillars of revitalization will undermine the prospects for sustainable peace and development in South Sudan.
