Abstract
Emotion regulation is an important aspect in children's emotional development. Parents play an important role in emotion socialization, including in developing their child’s emotion regulation. Parental emotional style can affect children’s learning process to regulate their emotions. Father and mother may use different emotional styles. As such, children may encounter difficulties in learning to regulate their emotions. The purpose of this study is to look at the emotion regulation of children aged 4-6 years, based on the father and mother’s emotional style. This study employed a comparative quantitative approach involved 156 participants. Data were collected online by distributing the Parental Emotional Style (PESQ) and Emotion Regulation Checklist (ERC). Analysis using Two-Way ANOVA show that there was no difference in the emotion regulation of children aged 4-6 years based on the father and mother’s emotional style. The result was important as it might reflect the way emotion socialization conducted in Indonesia. The discussion explored these possibilities and shed lights for future research on this topic.
