Abstract

Objectives

The authors describe the case of a patient with mandibular first molar with a large degree of bone inclusion and in proximity to the inferior alveolar nerve.

Materials and methods

In this case report the authors present the surgical extraction of a deep impacted first molar with piezoelectric ultrasonic instrumentation.

Results

A new bone lid technique with a piezoelectric device, which is described in this article, may be indicated considering its selective and soft tissue sparing abilities when a conventional operation requires extensive removal of alveolar bone and/or performing surgery in close proximity to the alveolar nerve, when there is an appreciable risk of damage to the inferior alveolar nerve by instrumentation.

Conclusions
