Espansione controllata della cresta ossea atrofica mandibolare per fini implantari: caso clinico

Abstract

Objective

The aim of this report is to illustrate a method for expanding atrophic alveolar ridges and to analyze its advantages and disadvantages.

Materials and methods

Ridge thickness is increased with the aid of a series of screw expanders-condensers, which do not remove bone from the implant site when its thickness is reduced, but they facilitate placement of appropriately sized implants. The case presented is a patient with moderately severe horizontal atrophy of the mandibular ridge.

Results

This technique allowed us to insert an appropriate implant after sufficient expansion had been achieved. Releasing osteotomies were avoided, reducing the risk of intra- and postoperative complications.

Discussions and conclusion

The use of screw expanders-condensers improves the quality and amount of bone around the implant, and the surgical procedure is better tolerated by patients.
