Abstract

In Platygloea effusa germination of discharged basidiospores stranded on the hymenium is by repetition. On 0.2 % malt agar germination is non-synchronous. Basidiospores germinating at an early stage produce long unbranched hyphae, one from each spore. Those germinating later may form several, short, prostrate conidiophores bearing C-shaped conidia on the surface of the medium. This situation is compared with that in Auricularia auricula-judae.
