Abstract
Shipping vessels/ships across India face serious issues due to biofilm formation. Irrespective of wooden or FRP boat hulls, biofilms are inevitable due to accumulation of algae, bacteria and other microorganisms. This eventually leads to the accumulation of barnacles and sea weeds in second phase which causes serious bio-fouling. Bio-fouled boats or ships face serious decline in speed due to drag force (respective of the fluid friction) and overall efficiency too. Hence in this study, a series of bio-film coatings such as Teflon and epoxy are performed and corresponding fouling studies are done. Also, the effects of blending organic pesticide along with anti-fouling agents are also studied. Experimental investigation shows that two major benefits, first one is about the performance of bio-fouling factors observed with different water samples in 3 different stages (Log, stationary and declined condition) and second is about epoxy coating blended with organic pesticide (Azadirachta Indica) volume fraction is effective in reducing bio fouling in boat hulls.
期刊介绍:
Periodico di Mineralogia is an international peer-reviewed Open Access journal publishing Research Articles, Letters and Reviews in Mineralogy, Crystallography, Geochemistry, Ore Deposits, Petrology, Volcanology and applied topics on Environment, Archaeometry and Cultural Heritage. The journal aims at encouraging scientists to publish their experimental and theoretical results in as much detail as possible. Accordingly, there is no restriction on article length. Additional data may be hosted on the web sites as Supplementary Information. The journal does not have article submission and processing charges. Colour is free of charges both on line and printed and no Open Access fees are requested. Short publication time is assured.
Periodico di Mineralogia is property of Sapienza Università di Roma and is published, both online and printed, three times a year.
