Abstract

To decarbonize the transportation sector, gasolinepowered cars are being swiftly replaced with Electric Vehicles (EVs). Several countries have set ambitious EV adoption goals. However, range anxiety, charging time, and charging station availability limit EV adoption. Battery Swapping (BS) technology offers a remedy to the above-mentioned concerns. Depending on the kind of car, BS may cut the time a user spends at the charging station from an hour to only 5 to 10 minutes. The suggestion that batteries be leased instead of sold with EVs may very well catalyze legislation that forces the transportation industry to move away from fossil fuels. However, evidence from several countries shows that the adoption of BS is active and constant when the proper regulations and incentives are in place. With a study on EV adoption and BS policies in other countries, it may be possible to evaluate the shortcomings of present practices and efforts to promote BS in India. The paper looks at India’s and other countries’ EV BS policies in this context. It contrasts the methods used in India and other countries in terms of the BS infrastructure needs, laws, and financial incentives to promote the adoption of battery-swappable EVs.
