Abstract
The application of mathematical concepts and the generation of mathematical solutions to engineering problems are essential to the educational problems of all undergraduate engineering students. As engineering is a practising profession, multidisciplinary approaches to lab experiment courses can lead to a better experience for students. This paper describes the application of Surface Response Methodologies (RSM) to a Chemical Engineering course. In particular, the paper considers the application of an experimental design employing scientific software like Statgraphicsto mimic the management of polluted effluents from industries, so students will relate \real world" into an otherwise theoretical education. The main laboratory skills developed under the framework of this course will be problem-working, communication and teamwork.
