Abstract

Focus on the designed modular induction spherical motor, the excitation method of stator windings is analyzed and an analytical model for fields analysis is presented, which combines the spherical harmonic expansion with the second-order magnetic potential. The current density distribution on the external spherical surface of the stator teeth is described by employing the spherical harmonic expansion method. Taking it as a boundary condition, the analytical expression is proposed based on the second-order vector magnetic potential. Finally, compared with finite element method (FEM) and experiments, the accuracy of the presented analytical model is verified.
