Superficially Invasive Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma Presenting With Features Of Oral Verrucous Hyperplasia – A Case Report

Abstract

Brief Background : Verrucous lesions of the oral cavity with warty and exophytic clinical presentations can have varied histopathology. Oral Verrucous hyperplasia (OVH) is a potentially malignant disorder, which may transform into oral carcinoma. Case Report : We report a 56-year-old male patient who presented with a verruco-proliferative pinkish white growth on the lateral border of the tongue. The patient was diagnosed with superficially invasive squamous cell carcinoma in verrucous hyperplasia based on histopathological features. Summary and Conclusion : The diagnosis of this entity poses difficulty as it can be underdiagnosed as oral verrucous hyperplasia particularly in superficial biopsies.
