CF Ipal – a case study of the chrome-free drop in replacement for IP1041 hexavalent chrome coating

Abstract

The author is an independent consultant specialising in the slurry coatings industry, having been involved with the application of slurry coatings for over 20 years. During this time, he has covered every stage of the process, from the preparation of the parent material to building his own coating facility that serviced a light industrial gas turbine company, allowing testing of new coatings and giving the company a USP. Establishing Holder Specialised Solutions over the past 18 months has given the opportunity to use his experience and specialist knowledge to improve processes, increase output and improve the application to his customers, including development work on the CFIpal (chromium-free Ipal) coating at Indestructible Paint Ltd., Birmingham. What follows is a case study describing this project.
