Discoveries of the United States Fish Commission; notices of fifty species of East Coast fishes, many of which are new to the fauna

Abstract

THE object of the present paper is to give a brief summary of the coast investigations of the United States Fish Oommission (Professor S. F. Baird, Oommissioner) since the publication of a similar paper in this Journal for December, 1877, pp. 470-478. Oertain species which should be mentioned here have not yet_been identified; these will be reserved for a future paper. Full descriptions of species and discussions of questions hinted at in these notices have appeared or will appear in the Proceedings of the United States National Museum.
