Abstract
Objective
Periodontal problems are encountered frequently in clinical practice. Our objective in this report is to analyze a synergic approach to the management of furcation defects that involves endodontic-surgical and guided tissue regeneration-based periodontal procedures.
Materials and methods
The patient was a 30-year-old woman with no systemic disease. The synergic approach was used to treat an inter-radicular lesion involving tooth 4.6 (vertical probing depth: 5 mm; horizontal probing indicative of grade I furcation).
Results and conclusions
This case illustrates the importance of pre-treatment diagnostic work-up and careful consideration of treatment options to guarantee stable results in time. Supportive periodontal therapy and a good patient compliance with protocols for maintaining oral hygiene play key roles. The validity of this approach is further supported by the encouraging results observed during the long-term follow-up, which are consistent with data in the literature.
