Nanostructure of a new dinuclear 11-coordinated complex of lanthanum(III) with the ligand 1,4-bis(3-pyridyl)-2,3-diaza-1,3-butadiene(3-bpdb),[La(3-bpdb)1/2(H2O)4(NO3)3]2.H2O.3-bpdb (1), was synthesized by a sonochemical method, and these transformations have been verified by X-ray powder diffraction, FT-IR spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy. Crystal composition as determined by single-crystal X-ray analysis reveals that it belongs to the triclinic space group Pī. The crystal structure of this compound has been studied. Also, compound 1 has been used as a precursor of the synthesis of La2O3 nanostructure.
