Herbage yield and economic viability of grass (Panicum colaratum) and legume (Trifolium prantese) mixtures under variable seed rates in the eastern highlands of Ethiopia

Abstract

Mixtures of grass (Panicum colaratum) and legume (Trifolium prantese) at seed rates of 50 : 50% produced (p < 0.001) higher herbage dry matter yield and was biologically and economically more competitive and viable than 25 : 75% and 75 : 25%, since it had the highest land equivalent ratio and the best monetary advantage (US$219) and net return (US$144).
