Abstract

With rapidly advancing technologies, it is more critical than ever to assess and enhance the cyber-physical grid security. This paper aims to provide a comprehensive review and insights of the electrical power generation system security issues using the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) security framework. Besides, it highlights the research gaps that need to be addressed for a secured system. This paper first evaluates the risk in the cyber-physical system to suggest for a more strategic defense specifically against False Data Injection Attacks (FDIA). Next, it highlights the importance of developing state-of-the-art protection measures to secure the system. This work then proposes a detection in-depth structure for holistic detection of attacks in the system. Lastly, it reviews the response and recovery measures and discusses the emergence of digital forensics in the smart grid.
