El Partido Socialista de Uruguay y la socialdemocracia internacional (1945–1999)

Abstract

This text will analyze the relations of the Socialist Party of Uruguay (PSU) with the Socialist International (SI), from 1951 to 1999. The SI is the organization that groups socialist, social democratic and labor parties from all over the world and the PSU is one of the oldest and most important socialist parties in Latin America. In order to facilitate the analysis and presentation of events that occurred over such a long period of time, the work is divided into three parts. The first runs from the end of World War II until the first break of the PS with the SI in 1963. The second part begins in 1963 and lasts until 1976, when the SI leaves the period of crisis and decadence it was experiencing. The third moment (1976–1999) begins with the presidency of Willy Brandt in the SI and ends with the reincorporation of the PSU to the SI
